Mizuhiki

Mizuhiki is the traditional art of knot tying. The cords are made of tightly twisted paper and covered with gold thread or painted in an array of different colours.

This ancient art form began in the time of samurai, where it was used to tie their top knots, or even to decorate very special gifts.

Today, it’s used to decorate anything from stationery, gifts, decorations around the home, mobiles, hair decoration, interesting pieces of art (carp, cranes…) or anything else you can think of.

I love Mizuhiki – in Oz they call it ‘ Mizuhiki cord’. It is very expensive here. I use it a lot in my card making but just in its straight state. I like the wide cords – how are they joined together. Where can I find some patterns for making the knots/flowers?

Again, these are wonderful samples. I have also used Mizuhiki in my card making – and have a couple of basic instructions but nothing as beautiful as these.

I practice Ikebana and also interested in learning this beautiful craft for a gift wrap hobby as I find it very relaxing. There are some instruction videos but I prefer a book step by step guide, in English. It is proving difficult to find one. What would you recommend please?
So pleased to have found you.
    Kind regards and thanks,
    Stephanie.
